I have been using Batocera for one year with a Pi 3B and a few months later with a Pi 5, and I can tell you a few things that I didn’t like:

There were no overheating or undervolting warnings. There was no throttling when the system was overheating They are offering 64-bit images for the 3B with the Sway window manager, which adds too much load to a weak board. They are updating everything in every new release without enough testing, relying too much on users for bug reports as a result many bugs. You don’t have the ability to update or downgrade cores, so if a bug appears, you have to wait for the next release. System was running 7-10 degrees hotter than RetroPie. I had performance issues with PS1 games with enhanced resolution. For example, Colin McRae 2 is running at 60 fps with Retropie but is having frames drop in B. The same issue occurs with Dolphin on Pi5, games that run at full speed on Retropie are unplayable in Batocera.

The big plus of Batocera is its simplicity and the feature-rich version of EmulationStation. Try them both and choose the best for you

That's ok, the Audio menu is meant to configure only the on-board audio, hence the message. External (USB/GPIO) sound cards are not supported.

@helloThere poor performance in mupen64plus-next is expected right now, i just wouldn't expect it to crash, so now that's fixed i'm happy :) i would use standalone mupen64plus-gliden64 until we have news on -next.

@mitu yep I see that now, the site I found didn't say anything about ROMs. But it's quite clear the op bought a pre-loaded system for sure.

Third party images are not supported. Do so at your own risk.

Hey thanks for your help, I actually have solved the problem via first installing raspbian then retropie following the video below after installing with NOObs and now I everything works as intended.

Still have no idea why the boot didn't work for me but at this point I am more interested in relaxing and playing some lovely 8bit games on my Picade. May be I can bump this later on when my curiosity kicks back in.

nice! but you really don't have to use 480p. like i said, pscx-rearmed is full speed (other than the same slight micro-slowdown emulations issues) on a pi2 at 1080p at default settings.

I just tested seafile. It doesn't seem to have recurrent tasks that load the system like owncloud.
But nearly everytime I go on a page of the UI, python takes 100% of 1 to 2 cores during 5-10s, which is the time the page takes to load on my local network (withe empty repository - sic).
Moreover, unlike owncloud, seafile doesn't allow to mount and use various external storages (including SMB, S3, google, ...).
It's an interesting software, pretty easy to configure, but the more I test, the more I think the RPi kind of lacks power for this kind of applications, especially if it already hosts retropie.

Whoever could solve the problem with sound on SNES emulator PI3B, PI3B+
The solutions described "https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Sound-Issues/" do not work.
Very disappointed in Raspberry.
Sound sometimes slows down and collapses.

The problem was in throttling.

avoid_warnings=2 means don't show the warning squares and don't disable turbo mode on under-voltage condition. We still throttle on over-temperature.

I can confirm the problem on my side, honestly i thought there's issues with my controller.

@dankcushions This particular log was collected while only running at the title screen. It doesn't look like the video stutters but the audio skips for sure. Not sure if that helps.
